SDS Sentinel
Local-first software for managing Safety Data Sheet inventories.
Description
SDS Sentinel scans folders containing Safety Data Sheet PDFs, extracts structured data from each document, and tracks revision dates and regulatory status. It is designed for safety officers and EHS teams that maintain SDS records on local file systems or shared drives. Distributed as a Windows desktop application; no cloud account required, and no document content is uploaded to a third-party service.
Capabilities
- REF-01 Indexes a designated folder of SDS PDFs and detects new, modified, and removed files.
- REF-02 Parses GHS hazard codes, signal words, and pictograms from Section 2 of supplier SDS documents.
- REF-03 Extracts product identifiers, supplier details, and revision dates from common SDS layouts.
- REF-04 Tracks document age relative to the supplier's stated revision date and flags entries past a configurable threshold.
- REF-05 Cross-references parsed CAS numbers against the ECHA SVHC candidate list and flags substances of very high concern.
- REF-06 Exports the current inventory to CSV or PDF for internal records and audit preparation.
Workflow
- 01
Point it at a folder
Select the directory where your team stores SDS PDFs. SDS Sentinel reads files in place and does not move or rename them.
- 02
Run an initial scan
Each PDF is parsed locally. The application builds an inventory record per document and stores it in a local database.
- 03
Review the inventory
Open the dashboard to see parsed records, missing fields, and documents flagged by revision date. Each parsed record can be reviewed and signed off by a named user; the application keeps a timestamped audit trail of every verification decision. Export to CSV or PDF as needed.
